The Age of Vice

It’s just the 20th of January and I think I’ve already read one of the best books of the year. The main protagonist of Deepti Kapoor’s ‘Age of Vice’ is Delhi. The Delhi of the aughts, the Delhi when Gurgaon, Noida and Greater Noida were yet to become the monstrous suburbs as we know it to be today. You end up seeing the city with an entirely new lens and suddenly a lot of the showrooms and fancy markets make a lot of sense.

In an interview with Barnes and Noble, Kapoor shares an interesting anecdote. In 2014, in a bar in Delhi, a bunch of dentists casually snorting cocaine were fearless enough to invite her to join in! Once upon a time, this would have sounded farfetched to me (that gives you a sense of my social life!). But not anymore…
